Weekly Tribal Fusion Belly Dance classes at the North Texas School of World Dance in Frisco, TX! Thursdays @ 8:30-9:30.
Tribal Fusion is a mesmerizing dance form which contrasts slow, oozing movements with extremely quick, sharp pops and locks. Elements of American cabaret belly dance are combined with moves that have been borrowed from other sub-genres that form the pan-bellydance spectrum, as well as from pretty much any other dance form there is! (Part of what makes fusion so much fun!) I specialize in a style that borrows heavily from american hip-hop and pop-lock, which I found so appealing because it is both out-of-reach-exotic and immediately familiar. Belly dance is an incredibly fun way to get in shape and condition one's body, but more than that is extremely empowering, a way to connect with one's self, to build self-esteem, and promote cultural awareness by taking part in a dance form who's roots are ancient and wide-spread.
Classes are offered in 6 week sessions:
First session is a technique class offered to those seeking an introduction to the style. (Please note: This is not a beginning bellydance class! Students should have had at least one year of dance experience so that they are familiar with how to isolate different movements. The technique class is intended to teach students how to modify those isolations to create the stylization of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance). Classes begin with a yoga-style warm up designed to develope one's mind-body connection, and to promote the core strength and the flexibility needed to create both slow, serpentine movements, as well as sharp pops and locks. Moves are first broken down, then drilled for further conditioning. Short combinations are then introduced so that students can then begin to familiarize themselves with the full stylization of the style.
Second Session is devoted to learning a complete unique choreography. A brand-new choreography is presented every other session! Session one is a pre-requisite to session two unless you've had prior experience in the style.
